ABSTRACT:This text attempts to discuss the processes and limits of literary and cultural translations, seen as linked to geopolitical representations centered around the notion of "West" (i.e., Europe and the United States). To this end, we analyze the history of translation and reception of texts by and related to Japanese writer Yukio Mishima in Brazil. We argue that although translational processes may reproduce representational regimes, they may also make them more complex.
