Abstract:Risks of vascular complications are enhanced two‐to‐four fold in diabetes, accounting for increased morbidity and mortality in these patients. Hyperglycemia is an important risk factor for macrovascular complications associated with diabetes. Diabetic patients exhibit an increased incidence of vascular smooth muscle cell (VSMC) migration and proliferation, a hallmark of VSMC phenotypic switching from the quiescent contractile state to a synthetic proliferative phenotype. Hyperglycemia increases glucose flux th… Show more
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
