O genero Paspalum L. grupo Plicatula (Poaceae: Paniceae), no Brasil

Show more

“…In addition to these, about 30 groups without a formal taxonomic level were proposed within subgenus Paspalum, mainly based on morphological characters of inflorescences and spikelets, due to the difficulty of establishing clear limits between sections (Chase, 1929(Chase, , 1939. These informal groups, most of them without phylogenetic support (Rua et al, 2010;Scataglini et al, 2014), were used in taxonomic, cytological, and phylogenetic studies involving Paspalum species (e.g., Cialdella et al, 1995;Morrone et al, 1995aMorrone et al, , 1996Morrone et al, , 2000Morrone et al, , 2004Oliveira & Valls, 2002;Oliveira, 2004;Denham et al, 2010;Rua et al, 2010;Pozzobon et al, 2013;Scataglini et al, 2014;Delfini et al, 2019); it should be stressed that, in the absence of a complete phylogeny of the genus, and due to the complexity of the evolution of their genome, groups defined by Chase (1929Chase ( , 1939 are still the best approach to resolve the taxonomy of Paspalum.…”

“…Pterolepidium Pilger (1929: 228). However, due to the difficulty, in many cases, of establishing clear limits between sections, most taxonomic publications have recognized Paspalum species in informal groups (e.g., Cialdella et al 1995, Oliveira & Valls 2002, Denham 2004, Oliveira 2004, Denham et al 2010, Nicola et al 2014, which have been circumscribed exclusively on morphological characters. The monophyly of several of these groups has not yet been tested with molecular data.…”
