O-atom transport catalysis by neutral manganese oxide clusters in the gas phase: Reactions with CO, C2H4, NO2, and O2

Abstract: Reactions of CO, C2H4, NO2, and O2 with neutral Mn(m)O(n) clusters in a fast flow reactor are investigated both experimentally and theoretically. Single photon ionization at 118 nm is used to detect neutral cluster distributions through time of flight mass spectrometry. Mn(m)O(n) clusters are generated through laser ablation of a manganese target in the presence of 5% O2/He carrier gas. A strong size dependent reactivity of Mn(m)O(n) clusters is characterized. Reactions Mn2O5/Mn3O7 + CO → Mn2O4/Mn3O6 + CO2 are… Show more

“…Yin et al studied the reactivity of neutral manganese oxide clusters MnnOm (n = 2-13), which were generated by laser ablation of a Mn foil into 5% O2/He carrier gas and photoionized by a 118-nm laser radiation. 30 Mei-Ye et al experimentally and theoretically studied the reactions between manganese oxide cluster anions and H2S. 31,32 However, there have been no reports of the thermal stability of manganese oxide clusters in the gas phase.…”

“…A large number of catalytic processes assisted by these catalysts has been already in use, for instance oxidation reactions [7][8][9] or various organic syntheses [10], and many other interesting applications can be envisaged such as electrode materials in batteries employing pseudocapacitive behavior [11] or for potential use in supercapacitors [12,13]. Moreover manganese oxides based substances are useful for ionic absorption [14].…”
