Abstract:Resumo As vilas mineradoras de Arroio dos Ratos e Butiá, no Rio Grande do Sul, eram, na primeira metade do século XX, uma das maiores concentrações de trabalhadores do sul do Brasil. Com cerca de 7 mil operários concentrados, a região foi líder na produção brasileira de carvão mineral até o fim da II Guerra Mundial.
