Nutritional Status of Patients on Maintenance Hemodialysis as Assessed by Mini Nutritional Assessment Survey- Short Form and Anthropometric Measurements.

Abstract: Protein calorie malnutrition is common in chronic kidney disease patients especially on maintenance hemodialysis (MHD). Multiple factors including mainly frequency and adequacy of dialysis and dietary habits may result in malnutrition besides other comorbidities. Different tools have been designed to analyze the nutritional status of dialysis patients including subjective global assessment, malnutrition inflammation score, Mini Nutritional Assessment– Short Form (MNA-SF) and several others. We assessed the nut… Show more

“…Most of our patients had a normal BMI (105, 52.8%), but the majority were at risk of malnutrition (112, 57.4%). These results are similar to another study from Pakistan [21]. Similar to BMI, anthropometric measurements showed a strong association with MNA (MAC, p=0.036; CC, p<0.001; MAMC, p=0.016).…”

“…Height (cm) and weight (kg) were measured by a stadiometer. Body composition, that is, weight (kg), bone mass (%), body fat (%), muscle mass (%), body water (%), basal metabolic rate (BMR), and active metabolic rate (AMR), was measured by using bio-electrical impedance-based scale BF-105 (Beurer; Rizvi et al, 2020).…”
