One of several factors that could increase maize production is the use of biofertilizers produced from microorganisms. The objective of this study was to obtain a granule biofertilizer formulation with Citrobacter murliniae, Raoultella terrigana, and Enterobacter hormaechei bacteria in increasing the growth and yield of several maize cultivar. The research was conducted at the Integrated Laboratory of the Faculty of Agriculture and Animal Science, University of Muhammadiyah Malang and experimental land in Singosari Malang, East Java, Indonesia from November 2020 to April 2021. The treatments were arranged in split plot design and repeated three times. The main plot was the density of Rhizobacteria which consisted of R0 = without Rhizobacteria, R1 = density 107, R2 = density 108, and R3 = density 109. Sub-plot was maize cultivar consisted of C1: Pertiwi 3, C2: Bisi 18, C3: Bisi 2, C4: Syngenta NK 6172, and C5: Pioner P27. Each experimental unit was represented by five sample plants. Results of the study showed that the treatment of bacterial colony density on biofertilizer granules has not been able to increase the growth and yield of maize, except for the average weight of cob and weight of cob without maize on the various cultivar studied.

Quinoa starch microparticles (QSMs) fabricated with unhydrolyzed quinoa starch (QS) by inverse microemulsion technology could be used as medicine delivery and cosmetic accessories. The size distribution of QSMs was uniform at 28.5 μM, and the adsorption capacity of methylene blue was 0.82 mg/ g. The optimum preparation process was as follows: a QS mass fraction of 9%, an epoxy chloropropane content of 1%, an amount of oil phase of 100 mL, a span 80 of 3 mg/mL, and a stirring speed of 400 r/min for 3 h at room temperature and pressure. The QSMs were spherical, ellipsoidal in shape with the specific surface area of 1.676 m 2 /g. The crystallinity of the QSMs increased from 1.24% to 16.8% after crosslinking. The maximum thermal degradation temperature of the QSMs rose slightly than QS. It will be a promising material for application as a drug carrier and in cosmetics.

Germination improves seed functionality due to increased phytochemicals and associated antioxidant activities. These effects are enhanced with a suitable inductor which is applied at appropriate time and dose. The aim of the present work was to evaluate the effect of germination + UV-B elicitation on the chemical compositions, antioxidant activities (AoxA), total phenolic (TPC), total anthocyanin (TA), and γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA) contents in blue maize seeds. The application of UV-B radiation (wavelengths of 280 - 311 nm) during 37.0 h was an effective elicitor. Germinated-elicited blue maize flour (GEBMF) had higher proteins (+29.1%), dietary fibres (+22.0%), and AoxA (ABTS: +133.9%; DPPH: +173.4%) than unprocessed blue maize flour (UBMF). The increase in AoxA was closely related to the observed increase in TPC (+587.2%), TA (+29.9%), and GABA (+199.9%). Therefore, GEBMF could be used as a source of proteins, dietary fibres, and natural antioxidants in the formulation of new functional foods and beverages. These results could also contribute to the use and conservation of blue maize, an underutilised cereal.
