“…Prolactin and growth hormone, together with somatolactin belong to the same family of adenohypophyseal hormones and are released from the pituitary to exert endocrine control of a very diverse array of physiological processes (Zhu et al, 2007). In fish, somatolactin has been shown to be required for normal control of pigmentation (Fukamachi et al, 2004(Fukamachi et al, , 2009) and may also play roles in osmoregulation (Kaneko, 1996), stress (Rand-Weaver et al, 1993, acid-base regulation (Kakizawa et al, 1996) and metabolism (Vega-Rubin de Celis et al, 2004).
