Nutrition Realities in the Lower Income Countries

Abstract: espite its quantum leaps in produc-D tivity, the 20th Century food system has failed to eliminate the tragedy of malnutrition in the lower income countries (LIC). At least partial explanations for this failure lie in three critical, but frequently ignored, realities about efforts to improve nutrition. The first relates to agriculture, the second to economics, and the third to nutrition.
