Nutrigenomic marker discovery by de novo transcriptomic sequencing during early development of the tropical gar ( Atractosteus tropicus )

Abstract: Of the seven living gars extant today, Atractosteus tropicus is well appreciated for consumption and is one of the most economically important species in southeast Mexico, particularly in Tabasco, by both capture and aquaculture production. Therefore, extensive research has been conducted during the last four decades, achieving its reproduction and larval rearing using both live and commercial feeds

“…During the early stages of sh development, the energy source switched from endogenous nutrition to external nutrition as the yolk was exhausted and food intake increased gradually. According to the ndings of studies on sh species, the upregulated expression trends may be connected to a change in the larval diet [27,33,35]. The consistency and conservation of functional genes in the regulation of certain physiological process can be observed in the similarities of the expression patterns above.…”

“…The nucleotide sequences of fads and elovl genes and the reference genes ef1 (elongation factor 1-alpha) and 18S rRNA used for this study were retrieved from a de novo transcriptome for A. tropicus, generated from Illumina short reads, reported in supplementary material by Martínez-Burguete et al, (2021) and supplementary_file_1. Transcripts were obtained by Basic Local Alignment Search Tool (BLAST), using as queries the genes reported for L. oculatus in the ENSEMBL databases (https://www.ensembl.org/) and NCBI (https://blast.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/), using specific desaturases reported by Lopes-Marques et al, (2018) with accession numbers MK005529 for fads1 and MK005530 for fads2.…”
