Nutrient concentration in wheat and soil under allelopathy treatments

Abstract: Allelopathy is related to soil nutrient availability and allelochemicals can change the soil and therefore the plant nutrient status. Wheat is one of the most important crops for the production of human food in the world. Alhagi maurorum and Cardaria draba are the most important weeds in wheat fields. We performed experiments to assess the allelopathic effect of A. maurorum and C. draba shoots on mineral nutrient concentrations in pot-grown wheat plants and soil. The presence of dry powder of A. maurorum and C… Show more

“…Their leaf water leaching liquid affects root length, shoot length and chlorophyll content, and reduce seed germination and plant dry weight (Talukdar and Talukdar, 2012; Uddin and Robinson, 2017). Allelochemicals reduce plant absorption and increase the availability of soil nutrients (Aslam et al, 2017;Mohammadkhani and Servati, 2018). Our study showed that pine needle water leaching solutions, such as P. tabuliformis, P. thunbergii and P. koraiensis, significantly inhibit their Chl.…”

“…However, amylase is not the only enzyme involved in germination. Several other enzymes are involved in seed germination; the process is also related to nutrient concentration in the soil (MOHAMMADKHANI & SERVATI, 2018). There are many other mechanisms of 1,8-cineole on wheat seed germination and growth that need further study.…”

“…Another important point to consider are soil altering allelopathic effect via modifications of biotic and abiotic soil parameters. Root exudates are known to influence nutrient availability and physicochemical soil conditions and reciprocally (Mohammadkhani and Servati, 2018;Zeng, 2014). By altering the soil properties, it is possible that moor grass allelochemicals may had indirectly affected oak growth.…”
