Abstract

First and foremost, I would like to thank Buster Simpson for his prompt responses to all of my questions. Without his help, the images he sent me, and his willingness to be interviewed, this dissertation would have been incomplete. Above all, I thank him for the brilliant and creative work he put out into the world. Numerous people helped me gather information throughout my project. The Luther College Interlibrary Loan department never ceased to amaze me in their ability to find obscure articles in the timeliest fashion. I also thank Luther College for providing me with a wonderful office, where the majority of this work was written.
