“…Other researchers have found results that are consistent with the qualitative findings of this study with respect to the role of unregulated health care providers in LTC (Bowers, Esmond, & Jacobson 2003;Clark, Fink, Pennington, & Jones, 2006;Mentes, Teer, & Cadogan, 2004). Bowers et al found that SCAs left their jobs in LTC because of the way they were treated by their supervisors, not necessarily because of the hard work or poor pay.…”

“…In nursing home residents, prevalence rates between 40% and 80% were found (Ferrell, 2004; Hewitt and Foley, 1996; Horgas and Dunn, 2001; Landi et al, 2001; Weiner and Rudy, 2002; Jones et al, 2005; Clark et al, 2006; Sawyer et al, 2007). Similar prevalence rates have been reported in community‐dwelling elderly (25–84%) (Brody and Kleban, 1983; Crook et al, 1984; Ferrell, 1991; Ferrell and Ferrell, 1991; Mobily et al, 1994; Brochet et al, 1998; Landi et al, 2001; Thomas et al, 2004; Clark et al, 2006; Miro et al, 2007) and elderly living in European residential homes (30–73%) (Brattberg et al, 1996; Cowan et al, 2003; Lövheim et al, 2006). For Dutch nursing homes, a pain prevalence of 68% was found in two independent studies (Smalbrugge et al, 2007; Boerlage et al, 2007).…”
