Abstract: Recruiting nurses for research can be challenging. We suggest that researchers consider using more than one recruitment strategy when recruiting nurse participants. Recruitment is more successful if researchers align the aim(s) of the research with nurse's concerns and contexts.

“…Each of the co-investigators described the experience of recruiting for this study to be more difficult than what they had previously experienced in other studies. During times of extreme political and environmental variance, the recruitment of nurses from all demographic backgrounds increases in complexity (Luck et al, 2017). According to the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN, 2019), the representation of racial-ethnic minority nurses is only 19% among the total registered nurse population in which ethnic minority nurses tend to shy away from research with initiatives that may expose leadership and working conditions.…”

“…This is due to a number of challenges such as finding time in busy clinical settings to engage in research, their perceived lack of skills with the research process and lack of support. [24,25] In our study the RN's readily completed the research component of the project during the workshops, however they did not engage in the ongoing data collection phases.…”

“…Essentially what it would involve is meeting up with you on two different occasions to talk about your experience (9). Of course, I've got ethics approval from my university to conduct this study and I can guarantee that your data would be kept confidentially and your identity will be anonymised throughout (10). And, of course, what is important to state is that even if you say you want to get involved and then change your mind then you're free to withdraw at any stage, no reason needed (11).…”
