Nurse scheduling using binary fuzzy goal programming

Abstract: Nurse scheduling problem (NSP) is a complex optimization problem of determining schedule for nurses by considering some constraints such as legal regulations, nurses' preferences, hospital policies and requirements. It is a difficult and time consuming task to deal with large problems with many constraints. In addition to this, in real world application, a person who prepared this schedule (e.g. head nurse), may be unable to state exact aspiration levels to the goals cause of system's uncertainties. So in this… Show more

“…Our PATNEED algorithm is designed to improve a patient's recovery and its satisfaction and nurse's utilization by allocating nurses based on patient's needs from his requirement set. In this paper we present a multi-objective [7][8][9] and a compact Integer Programming formulation of a patient-centric nurse scheduling problem, with a polynomial number of constraints and variables. In this patient centric model, various parameters are defined to represent the nurse's skills, constraints, patient's preferences for a specific nurse, their location, ailments, etc.…”

“…Nowadays, the management and planning for human resources is one of the significant impacts which have a crucial effect on economic success for any industrial project. Many approaches to achieve this goal of study have been presented such as; techniques which are based on artificial programming, models of mathematical simulation, and inferential statistics (Çetin and Sarucan 2015).…”

“…The goal programming theory also has a remarkable contribution in this field of study. Çetin and Sarucan (2015) mentioned that the application of goal programming is still possessing a leading position in solving the decision making problems which have multi objectives. Rahman et al (2018) pointed out that the GP is an effective approach which is primarily applied to obtain compromised solutions to the engineering activities to implement the targeted design goals.…”

“…e aim is to improve overall nurse preferences in a hospital in ailand. Similarly, Cetin and Sarucan [23] aimed for balancing the total work hours among the nurses. ey consider factors influencing nurses' preferences such as the desirable shift patterns, weekend day off allocation, and balance between day and night shifts.…”
