Numerical study on blast flowfields induced by supersonic projectiles discharged from shock tubes

Abstract: Characteristics and measurement of supersonic projectile shock waves by a 32-microphone ring array Rev. Sci. Instrum. 82, 084902 (2011);In this paper we report on a numerical study of the blast flowfield generated by a supersonic projectile released from the open-end of a shock tube into ambient air. The Euler equations, assuming axisymmetric flows, were solved using a dispersion-controlled scheme implemented with moving boundary conditions. Two initial test cases were calculated. One of them is for validation… Show more

“…These interactions affect the aerodynamic characteristics drastically. The unsteady flow-field of a projectile launch has been studied by many investigators [7][8][9][10][11] . Chand and Panda 12 studied the projectile trajectory using simplified point mass approach which considered only the drag force and the gravity force.…”
