Numerical study of wave-induced soil response in a sloping seabed in the vicinity of a breakwater

Abstract: a b s t r a c tIn this study, a mathematical integrated model is developed to investigate the wave-induced sloping seabed response in the vicinity of breakwater. In the present model, the wave model is based on the Volume-Averaged/Reynolds Averaged Navier-Stokes (VARANS) equations, while Biot's consolidation equation is used to govern the soil model. The influence of turbulence fluctuations on the mean flow with respect to the complicated interaction between wave, sloping seabed and breakwater are obtained by … Show more

“…The wave sub-model is based on the FDM solved equation in Flow 3D framework, while the COMSOL Multiphysics [28] software was used to establish the seabed sub-model, which the FEM solved-equation is assigned as the governing equation. Numerous studies in the past have employed these set of equations in the investigation of the WSSI around offshore pipelines [29,30] breakwater structures [31,32] and offshore pile structures [20,21].…”

“…The present numerical model is composed of wave sub-model and seabed sub-model, which are governed by RANS equations and QS (quasi-static) Biot's equations for poroelastic medium [14], respectively. In the previous studies, these two sets of governing equations have been adopted in the examination of wave-induced seabed response around pile foundations [25,26,29], breakwaters [39], and pipelines [40,41]. The integration method of these two sub-models will be also demonstrated in this section.…”
