Numerical simulation study of influence of friction coefficient of die based on Abaqus on V-shaped clamp stamping parameters

Abstract: To improve the forming quality of V-shaped clamps, a basis for optimal V-shaped clamp mold surface design is provided. In this paper, the V-shaped clamp stamping process is simulated using Abaqus and the influence of the mold’s friction coefficient on the V-shaped clamp stamping parameters is revealed. The regional friction coefficient of the V-shaped clamp mold surface is optimized using an equal horizontal design scheme and the optimal friction coefficient combination for the mold surface is obtained, along… Show more

“…The steel develops plastic deformations from the moment the proportionality tension is reached. In this curve, Young's modulus is present at the initial behavior of the material and followed by strain hardening, then a plateau of plastic yield [37]. This constitutive relationship makes it possible to simulate the steel plasticization stages, which include: the linear regime, the proportionality tension, and the yield level.…”

“…The numerical model considers a screw load generated by the tightening torque of 50 N.m applied to each screw carried out in the experimental tests. The "BOLT LOAD" option available in the ABAQUS load module was used to model this effect [37,40,41]. To reduce the complexity of the numerical model in relation to numerical convergence, the interaction between the truss members, such as the screw, spacer, and overlapping plate, were alternatively defined as rigid contacts using the TIE CONSTRAINT option available in ABAQUS.…”

“…V-shaped clamps were used as the research object in Wu et al's study of the impact of regional friction coefficient on forming parameters. 15 However, in actual production, the friction coefficient is affected by factors such as the material of the contact surface, surface lubrication state, positive pressure, and relative motion speed, which can lead to instability. The actual forming impact under working conditions differs significantly from the modeling results.…”

“…This negative factor leads to a constant search for knowledge, in order to improve the process and increase the quality of the obtained parts. 13 Katayama et al 14 directed their focus to solve the problem of cracks and wrinkles in the component stamping process of a transfer tool. For this purpose, a multi-objective optimization technique for the intermediate stamping stage of the part was developed.…”
