Numerical Simulation of Modified Compact Tension Test Depicting of Experimental Measurement by ARAMIS

Abstract: The paper is focused on the determination of mechanical fracture parameters from the modified compact tension test applied to the cement-based composites. The experimental measurement was carried out by means of the ARAMIS equipment. The numerical study is performed by ATENA 2D software (based on a cohesive law for crack propagation) taking the material parameters for numerical study from the standard compression test. The experimental and numerical results are discussed and compared with the help of basic fra… Show more

“…However, its applicability in concrete is characterized by some disadvantages, such as drilling the holes necessary to apply C the pulling forces and the hazard of a local fracture originated at these holes. The modified compact tension test (MCT [4,5,9,10,21,23) is a quite new test configuration on notched specimens to obtain fracture mechanics parameters of materials in laboratory conditions, note that test is derived from classic CT test. A detailed research program/campaign has to be done before the configuration starts to be used as a standard.…”

“…In the first case, the three point bending test (3PB) is applied to smaller beams either of dimensions 40 × 40 × 160 (120) mm 3 or 100 × 100 × 400 (300) mm 3 without reinforcement, see e.g. [2], [6] or [19]. In the second case the four point bend test (4PB) is applied mostly on larger reinforced concrete beams.…”
