Numerical simulation of a temperature field during multi-beads surface welding

Abstract: The calculation results of the temperature field during multi-beads GMAW (Gas Metal Arc Welding) cladding of the S355 steel plate are presented in the paper. Numerical simulations were performed using the Sysweld ® program. Two of Goldak's heat source models were chosen for calculating the temperature field for each weld bead. The original article achievement is, by selecting the right heat source model and heat loading of the finite elements, obtaining an irregular shape of the fusion zone. This irregular sha… Show more

“…Verifications of the structure are performed at the most adverse effects of loads on the structure [7]. Welding is used to join many components of the structure [8]. The fatigue calculation for amusement devices assumes 35 000 operating hours without considering the time of boarding and disembarking passengers.…”

“…Important factors affecting the type of structures formed are the temperature and rate of heating and cooling, as well as the austenitizing temperature, among others. Taking into account the phase transformations can therefore lead to an optimization of the heat treatment process or the welding process of steel elements through an appropriate choice of the temperature change scheme [ 18 , 19 , 20 ]. Thus, diagrams that take these factors into account store strongly nonlinear data, which is a challenge for the users analyzing them or the algorithms using them.…”

“…Multiphase flows have been substituted by thermal effects of liquid metal transport, melting, solidifying and allotropic changes. Another approach that is applicable to the thermal analysis of GMAW hardfacing is depicted in [7]. The paper describes a simulation approach that is based on SysWeld Finite Element Method (FEM) simulation software.…”
