Numerical Simulation and Experimental Confirmation of a Bimetallic Pipe Forming Process

Abstract: Most oil and gas is transported by pipeline, and corrosion causes a great threat to the service life of the pipeline; bimetallic pipe, which combines the advantages of good mechanical properties, good corrosion resistance, and relatively low price, is a good choice for high-pressure and corrosion-resistant pipe, but its manufacturing process and stress distribution are more complex than single metal pipe. JCO is a widely used cold forming method for pipes which is named by the shape of the plate in the forming… Show more

“…A bimetallic structure is a composite material in which two different metals are combined to obtain the advantages of different properties such as the thermo-physical, mechanical, electrical, optical, and corrosion/oxidation resistance properties of the two materials [ 1 ]. The development of these structures offers numerous advantages over a single material and allows for a wide range of applications [ 2 , 3 , 4 , 5 ]. Additive manufacturing (AM) can fabricate bimetallic structures entirely using multiple metallic materials, and these can also be fabricated using metallic parts prefabricated by conventional manufacturing techniques as a substrate.…”

“…Such elements are affected by various physical factors, such as power, thermal, and electromagnetic ones, while technological functioning and operation. There are certain studies of the power and thermal factors that influence the temperature distribution in bimetallic plate elements [17][18][19][20][21]. In [17], the joining of layers of the Al-Cu bimetallic composite and the diffusion process on edge between the layers using hot rolling are analyzed.…”

“…Bimetallic pipes, designed to improve anti-corrosion performance in oil and gas production pipelines, provide a wide range of application prospects due to their excellent mechanical properties and capacity to resist corrosion [ 1 , 2 , 3 ]. They are produced by the mechanical or metallurgical bonding of ordinary, usually carbon steel, pipes with an inner lining of corrosion-resistant alloy.…”
