Numerical modelling of fretting fatigue

Abstract: Abstract. Fretting fatigue is a consequence of small oscillatory movement between two contacting parts. This type of damage may give rise to significant reduction in fatigue life of the components. Many parameters such as contact geometry, contact load, friction, material strength and hardness can influence the resistance of materials against fretting damage. Experimental study of fretting fatigue parameters such as crack length measurement at the initial stages of crack growth is either very difficult or not … Show more

“…The issue of fretting fatigue is so prevalent in fact that, the US Air Force has identified it as one of the costliest sources of in-service damage occurring to their aircraft [7]. To this end, there have been many studies in the literature focusing on understanding of different materials subjected to the fretting fatigue load conditions using advanced experimental and numerical techniques [8][9][10][11][12][13].…”

“…Embora diversos estudos como os de TALEMI et al(2011) e BAIETTO et. al (2013 apresentem bons resultados, a complexidade envolvida no estudo de fretting faz com que os modelos normalmente representem apenas condições específicas.…”
