Numerical modeling and analysis of coaxial electrohydrodynamic jet printing

Abstract: Coaxial electrohydrodynamic jet (CE-Jet) printing is an encouraging method for fabrication of high-resolution micro and nanostructures in MEMS systems. This paper presents a novel simulation work based on phase field method which is considered as a precise technique in fluid dynamics. The study explores influence of various parameters such as applied voltage, needle-substrate distance, dynamic viscosity, relative permittivity, needle size and flow rate on stability and resolution of CE-Jet morphologies. The mo… Show more

“…37 The use of coaxial nozzles for generating core-shell filaments can also be found in electrohydrodynamic printing where inks are extruded into filaments using electric fields instead of pressure-driven flow as is typical for extrusion-based printing. Using this method, researchers were able to generate core-shell and hollow microfibers [38][39][40][41][42][43] whose diameters are smaller than that of the nozzles.…”

“…The electrostatics and laminar phase-flow physics were computed in Multiphysics contour in accordance with the schematic layout of the phase-field simulation system as shown in Figure 3 to produce stable microdroplets on various insulating surfaces. Basic geometry and boundary conditions from our earlier simulation work for e-jet printing [ 38 , 39 , 40 , 41 ] were employed in the axisymmetric model.…”

“…Furthermore, there is a certain detection blind spot in the tolerance band. In applications, 24 the quality of the key's appearance is primarily detected by spot checks. It is further extremely dependent on the judgment of engineers and it is very easy to leave safety hazards.…”
