Numerical Material Model for Composite Laminates in High-Velocity Impact Simulation

Abstract: A numerical material model for composite laminate, was developed and integrated into the nonlinear dynamic explicit finite element programs as a material user subroutine. This model coupling nonlinear state of equation (EOS), was a macro-mechanics model, which was used to simulate the major mechanical behaviors of composite laminate under high-velocity impact conditions. The basic theoretical framework of the developed material model was introduced. An inverse flyer plate simulation was conducted, which demons… Show more

“…The material of Kevlar helmet is Kevlar29, with parameters presented in Table 2. 13,14,15 As it can be seen in the last two columns of the table, there are differences in material properties: in the case of Kevlar helmet the material is impregnated with a high temperature phenolic resin matrix. The composite structure consists of 75% Kevlar and 25% epoxy (fiber/matrix volume fraction – vol.…”

“…Peluru dan plat aluminium menggunakan model plastisitas Johnson-Cook seperti pada persamaan 1. Kevlar/epoxy dimodelkan dengan model material orthotropik, jika material memiliki tiga bidang tegak lurus yang simetri, maka matriks kekakuannya ditunjukkan seperti pada persamaan 3 [14] dan hubungan regangan-tegangannya yaitu dengan invers matriks [C ij ] sehingga menjadi [S ij ] seperti pada persamaan 4 [15].…”

“…This is due to the fact that such materials are widely used in many important industry branches, e.g., civil engineering [ 1 , 2 , 6 , 7 ], automotive engineering [ 3 , 4 ], aerospace engineering [ 8 ] and many others. The composite’s superior performance is due to its manifold mechanisms, among others: A specific composite type, e.g., laminate [ 9 , 10 ] or matrix-inclusion [ 1 , 5 ]; The specific properties, shapes [ 11 ] and weight/volume ratios of the constituents; A very high adhesion between the constituents [ 5 , 11 ]. …”
