Numerical investigation on the electrical transmission ability of a shearing powder layer

Abstract: International audienceRecent developments in powder technology gave birth to a new lubricant – powder lubricant. Compared to liquid lubricant, powder lubricant like graphite powder has several advantages, such as good electrical conductivity and good thermal resistance. Such advantages are especially appreciated in sliding electrical contacts. Thus, the study of the electrical transmission ability of a shearing powder layer under different dy-namical constraints appears to have a great interest. Recent works a… Show more

“…We use the LMGC90 open-source platform initially developed in Montpellier by Jean and Dubois [14] that implement the CD method. The software benefits today from a number of contributions such as contact detection between polyhedra [15], solver parallelization with OpenMP [16], thermal and electrical coupling e↵ects [17], coupling with fluids [18] or various type of contact interactions.…”

“…[1][2][3][4][5][6] Many powder lubrication parameters, such as material type, surface condition, load, speed, particle size, temperature, and adhesion, have been focused in various studies. [7][8][9][10][11][12] Studying the influence of these parameters on powder lubrication can be facilitated by a test device to explore the influence of powder media in the friction interface. At first, Heshmat 13 studied the powder film mechanism in the friction and lubrication processes by establishing a powder lubrication test rig and determined that a powder film was formed in a narrow tribopair, which showed some characteristics that the fluid lubricant has.…”
