Numerical Investigation of Incompressible Fluid Flow through Porous Media in a Lid-Driven Square Cavity

Abstract: Problem statement: Investigation of fluid flow behavior through porous media in a liddriven square cavity. Approach: The Brinkman-Forcheimer equation is coupled with the lattice Boltzmann formulation to predict the velocity field in the system. Three numerical experiments were preformed with different values of Darcy number to investigate the effect of porosity on the fluid flow. Results: In the current study, we found that the magnitude of velocity, strength of vortex and velocity boundary layer is significant… Show more

“…There is no doubt that lattice Boltzmann method (LBM) is powerful alternative to conventional method in fluid mechanics. LBM has proved its ability in simulation of different flows such as flow in porous media [5] magneto-hydrodynamics [6] and etc. The aim of this investigation is to study of behavior of flow and natural heat transfer from heated thin plate located in enclosure vertically and horizontally for different aspect ratio (A=0.4 and 0.6) and different Grasshof number, Gr ( and ) by using lattice Boltzmann method .…”

“…Because ink-jet technology is no longer only an office printing technology (Abe et al, 2008); it has gradually become a versatile tool in various fields for accurately dispensing very small quantities of fluids on substrates, such as human organs or cells (Mironov et al, 2009;Guillemot et al, 2010;Xu et al, 2005;Cui and Boland, 2009). Futhermore, numerical and experimental investigation of a fluid flow through porous media is important for a wide range of applications varying from environmental analyses to inkjet printing technology (Mohd Irwan et al, 2010). Therefore, ink-jet technology is an essential technique for transferring bacterial cells in a small, stable and controlled volume.…”

“…These applications include geothermal and petroleum resources, in-site combustion of oil shale, boiling enhancement using porous coatings, compact heat exchangers, packed bed reactors or absorbent, high performance of building insulation and others. Freeconvection flows past a semi-infinite vertical plate have been studied under different physical conditions by Irwan et al (2010). Free-convection flow with mass transfer along a vertical plate in the presence of magnetic field has been investigated by Elbashbashy (1998).…”
