Numerical Evaluation of the Opening Effects on the Reinforced Concrete Slab Structural Performance

Abstract: A finite element method was used in this study to investigate the effects of openings on the resistive behavior of concrete slabs. The presented modeling procedure is used to conduct numerical analyses on the response of reinforced concrete slab subjected to in-plane monotonic loads in X (perpendicular to the beam) and Z (parallel to the beam) directions. Initially, the developed numerical model was calibrated and compared with laboratory results. In building this three-dimensional model, it is attempted to ac… Show more

“…Pin supports make a significant contribution to the stiffness of the structure because all components can receive moments, vertical and horizontal forces so that the stress concentration is concentrated in the holes and support areas, which is more visible from dynamic tests Model I Model II [16][17] [18][19][20]. This very significant influence causes the stress distribution to become even in all areas considered outside the main supporting structure [21][22] [23]. The type of bending damage following the type of support states that bending damage in plate structures depends on the type of support [4].…”
