Numerical evaluation of hydrodynamic characteristics of planing hulls by using a hybrid method

Abstract: The hydrodynamic characteristics of the planing hulls in particular at the planing regime are completely different from the conventional hull forms and the determination of these characteristics is more complicated. In the present study, calm water hydrodynamic characteristics of planing hulls are investigated using a hybrid method. The hybrid method combines the dynamic trim and sinkage from the Zarnick approach with the Savitsky method in order to calculate the total resistance of the planing hull. Since the… Show more

“…This work will also walk in the light of the use of software and CAD and improve and analysis various systems of the airboat including the seakeeping and the motion response of the vessel. Several others have made significant progress in the study of various aspects of the planning vessel [7], [8], [9], [10], [11]. In the construction of the airboat hull, the stability of the vessel at sea must be taken into consideration.…”

“…In another study, Najafi and Nowruzi 15 have carried out hydrodynamic computations for stepped Fridsma hull by analyzing different step configurations and various parameters, such as; number of steps, local height, or transverse shape of them. Kahramanoglu et al 16 have investigated drag and running attitudes of three different type planing hulls by using a hybrid method by coupling 2D potential based solution algorithm with Savitsky method. They have improved accuracy of the common hybrid method by reducing uncertainties of the method.…”
