Numerical Computation of Homogeneous Slope Stability

Abstract: To simplify the computational process of homogeneous slope stability, improve computational accuracy, and find multiple potential slip surfaces of a complex geometric slope, this study utilized the limit equilibrium method to derive expression equations of overall and partial factors of safety. This study transformed the solution of the minimum factor of safety (FOS) to solving of a constrained nonlinear programming problem and applied an exhaustive method (EM) and particle swarm optimization algorithm (PSO) t… Show more

“…optimization technique that has been applied to many different fields to solve many different types of problems, including the stability analysis of earth slopes. For earth slopes, PSO was primarily used to compute the minimum FS and to determine the most critical sliding surface [13][14][15][16][17][18][19][20]. In addition to theoretical framework development, a number of real-world engineering case studies were also available.…”

“…Slope-stability analysis is one of the parameters in the de-sign of road embankments that the designer must consider in order to ensure stable and safe construction (6). To improve the understanding of embankment stability, studies have been carried out, such as the analysis of embankment stability by the finite element method (7), (8) (Zhang et al, 2021), research on slope stability in geotechnical engineering and a GIS-based study for landslide susceptibility mapping (9).…”

“…These include slope stability analyses using the finite element method [15]. The stability analyses are carried out by the FEM [16], research focusing on slope stability in geotechnical engineering, and a study using geographic information systems (GIS) to map landslide susceptibility [17].…”
