Numerical calculation and experimental study on response characteristics of pneumatic solenoid valves

Abstract: In order to analyze the response characteristics of the solenoid valve in depth, the flow field of the solenoid valve is analyzed by means of the computational fluid dynamics, and the aerodynamic parameters that are difficult to be obtained by the traditional methods are obtained with software FLUENT. We also set up the mathematical model of the solenoid valve, including the aerodynamic model, the circuit model, the magnetic circuit model and the mechanical motion model. The calculation is completed in the Sim… Show more

“…The electromagnetic force-measurement device designed can obtain the force curve of the moving iron core in the whole process of moving, and the measurement resolution reaches 0.01 N. Currently, the measurement methods of response time mainly include the eddy current method, current-voltage analysis method, and displacement detection method, etc. [19,23]. Nevertheless, there is still a lack of equipment that is easy to implement and reliable in performance.…”

“…Adopting the approach of physical network modeling technique followed by many researches [11][12][13][14][15] , the dynamic equations for the pneumatic system in this research have been modeled and simulated using Matlab® Simscape toolboxes and discussed in details in [1] . The model has been validated by comparing the predicted dynamic behaviour of the system to the experimentally measured one.…”

“…Pneumatic drives are usually controlled by proportional or servo valves for high accuracy of position control. In these valves, continuous varying of the valve flow resistance leads to vary the airflow mass that enters into and out from the actuator [15] . On/off solenoid DCV is used here to control the varied flow discretely.…”

“…On/off solenoid valves are widely used because they are much cheaper and smaller compared with proportional valves [5,6]. Moreover, they have quick response because of their small airflow areas [7]. However, on/off solenoid valves are either fully open or fully closed [8,9].…”
