Numerical assessment of miniaturized cold spray nozzle for additive manufacturing

Abstract: Purpose Application of cold spray technology may exhibit significant benefits for the additive manufacturing process, particularly for producing intricate objects. To ascertain the feasibility of such an application, this paper aims to present a numerical investigation of the effect of scaling down a convergent-divergent (de Laval) nozzle, which is typically used in the cold spray industry, on the compressible flow parameters and thermal characteristics. Design/methodology/approach The Navier–Stokes equation… Show more

“…The CFD method can analyze and display the phenomena that occur in the flow field, predict the performance in a short period of time and achieve the best design result by changing various parameters with low cost and high computational efficiency. Recently, the CFD method has been widely used in the wood and forestry field [ 15 17 ]. The drying process of wood particles is researched by coupling Discrete Element Method (DEM) and CFD models [ 18 , 19 ], and the combustion characteristics of the packed bed in the wood chip combustor can be calculated and studied by CFD based on the Euler-Euler method [ 20 , 21 ].…”
