Numerical Analysis of Stratified Rock Slope Stability Based on 3DEC

Abstract: Discrete element software is used to simulate the excavation of a rock slope in Puli-Xuanwei Expressway in Yunnan Province. Through monitoring displacement development characteristics in different positions of slope, the result shows that the minimum horizontal displacement under excavation exists in the top of the slope, meanwhile the maximum horizontal displacement occurs in the foot and waist of the slope, and the maximum vertical displacement occurs in the top of the slope. Comparing rock slope in such con… Show more

“…This method considers the rock mass to be a combination of rigid or deformed blocks, which are separated by discontinuities such as fault, joint, and fissure, allowing the blocks to rotate or even separate from each other (33DEC Constitutive Models 2013). The macroscopic discrete element method has been widely used in geotechnical engineering as it is an ideal numerical method for analyzing the deformation and stability of jointed rock masses (Sheng et al 2011;Dehghan et al 2013;Wang et al 2013;Tan et al 2014).…”

“…Wu et al [28] used the discrete element software 3DEC to capture the basic three-dimensional characteristics of the landslide and form a post-failure structure similar to that observed in the field. Wang et al [29] used 3DEC to numerically simulate the excavation of a rock slope of the Puli-Xuanwei Expressway in Yunnan Province. By comparing the rock slopes under different stratum angles, directions, rock characteristics, and thicknesses, they obtained the possible failure modes of the slope and the mutative regulation of safety factors under different conditions.…”

“…The characteristics of fuzzy mathematical analysis method are considering objective fuzzy factors and the intermediary transition process during the essence changes happened. It reflects the intrinsic features of the objective things and the fuzzy attribute more better [6] . Wang Jia-Ding [7] has used fuzzy information analysis to evaluated the slope stability in Lanzhou as early as in 1990.…”
