Numerical Analysis of Roll Deflection for Sendzimir Mill

Abstract: The present work introduces a new type of numerical analyzing method: the contact element method with two relative coordinates (CEM). The main characteristic of the procedure is elements meshing on the basis of the contact length between objects and that each element has two relative coordinates. The ordinary expression of this procedure is DX [CXY(i)

“…Therefore, the simulation of the elastic deformation of rolls was performed in two steps for each of the strip widths analyzed. Moreover, Yu et al [19] introduced a new type of numerical analysis method: the Contact Element Method (CEM) with two relative coordinates to predict the deflection of work-roll.…”

“…Consequently, a strip with an incorrect cross-sectional contour and diverse dimensional deviations is obtained [8]. Depending on the type of roll assembly and the design of the rolling stand, different roll gap deformations are observed with the same widths and rolling reductions [19].…”

“…Based on Berger's theory, Hacquin et al [15] proposed a semi-analytical model by coupling with the analytical model and FEM. Yu et al [16][17][18] chosen Foppl formula as the roll flattening model and established a roll deformation model of 20-high mill. Coupled with the metal plastic deformation, the effects of work roll crown and the second intermediate non-drive roll crown on strip edge drop were analyzed.…”

“…Several researches were carried on the loading status of the rolling mill by Yu etc. and inclusion evolution in the rolling deformation were studied as well [1,2]. In addition, the study of the cracks propagation and elimination was investigated [3,4].…”
