“…The majority of the 54 species of the genus [2], [6], [7], [8], [9], [10] occur in Caribbean islands, mainly Cuba, Jamaica and Hispaniola (see for instance [11], [12], [13], [14], [15]). The genus is represented in continental South America by one species in Venezuela ( R. arduus Armas, Villareal & Colmenares, 2009), one in the eastern Brazilian Amazonia ( R. sul Cokendolpher & Reddell, 2000) and another, recently described species from the northeastern Brazilian Atlantic Forest ( R. linsduarteae Santos, Dias, Brescovit & Santos, 2008) [8].…”

“…Rowland and Reddell 1979a, 1979b, 1981Reddell and Cokendolpher 1991), and Cuba (e.g. Armas 1989;Teruel 2000;Armas 2002aArmas , 2002bTeruel and Armas 2002;Teruel 2003;Armas 2004;Teruel 2004;Armas 2005). It seems probable that most species of Schizomida have highly restricted and localised distributions which reflects their narrow environmental tolerances and low dispersal capabilities (Vine et al 1988;Humphreys et al 1989), fitting the definition of short-range endemics as defined by Harvey (2002).…”

“…One of them is an undescribed species from Tortuguero, Costa Rica, illustrated by Armas (2009) (see fig. 3D); the spermathecae of the specimen fits the present definition of the dumitrescoae group, but as the species was not formally described and the male is not known, the correct relationship of the morphospecies cannot be assured by now.…”

“…In contrast, only five species have been described so far from continental South America ( Rowlandius arduus Armas, Villarreal & Colmenares-García, 2009, Rowlandius linsduarte Santos, Dias, Brescovit & Santos, 2008, Rowlandius potiguar Santos, Ferreira & Buzzato, 2013, Rowlandius sul Cokendolpher & Reddell, 2000 and Rowlandius ubajara Santos, Ferreira & Buzzato, 2013). The genus has been recorded from different biomes, including the Brazilian Amazonia, the Brazilian Atlantic forest, and the Venezuelan cloud forest (Santos et al 2008; Armas et al 2009). Recently, some species were discovered inhabiting caves or patches of forest inserted in dry areas of Brazil, the Caatinga (Santos et al 2008; Santos et al 2013).…”
