Nueva especie de Callyntra Solier (Coleoptera: Tenebrionidae) de Chile central

Abstract: Resumen. “…Interestingly, S. nitidus is not the only beetle whose whole species distribution is restricted to this mountain. Cerro Poqui is also inhabited by other endemic insects, such as Callyntra hibrida (Zúñiga-Reinoso & Arcos-Cid, 2013), Protoanthicus poqui (Guerrero & Diéguez, 2018) and Licinoma poqui (Guerrero & Vidal, 2019). Multiple species from this area are currently threatened by habitat loss and potentially by the insect trade due to opportunistic overexploitation (Branch et al, 2013), and those yet to be assessed might even be critically endangered, since they comply with geographic range thresholds of 10 km 2 , the estimated surface area of Cerro Poquiincreasing its importance as a privately owned protected area (Table 1).…”

“…We only marked the sternites to reduce the chance of inadvertently helping collectors find individuals. In addition, due to S. nitidus being brachypterous and to complement the sampling design, we used dry pitfall traps (200 ml of empty volume), spaced every 10 m and distributed randomly along each sampling Guerrero and Diéguez (2018) plot (n = 22 per plot). We employed dry pitfall traps because this species is critically endangered by Chilean Ministry of Environment (DS 38/2015;MMA, 2019).…”
