Professor Heinrich Nijth zum 65. Gehurtsfag gewidmetUbergangsmetallkomplexe rnit Kohlenwasserstoffen als o,o-, o,z-oder n,n-gebundene Brukkenliganden sind zur Zeit von grol3em Interesse. In diesem Aufsatz werden effiziente und gezielte Synthesen fur diese Verbindungen, die haufig asthetische Strukturen aufweisen, vorgestellt. Bei diesen Reaktionen begegnen wir den wichtigsten Reaktionstypen in der modernen metallorganischen Chemie. Sie konnen eine nutzliche Hilfe zur Synthese maRgeschneiderter Verbindungen, 2.B. von Modellkomplexen fur katalytische Prozesse, sein, insbesondere auch zum gezielten Aufbau von Heterometallverbindungen. Reaktionen von elektrophilen mit nucleophilen Komplexen, zahlreiche Umsetzungen von (funktionalisierten) Kohlenwasserstoffen rnit Metallkomplexen, die zur Zeit besonders aktuellen Komplexe rnit Acetylid-und Carbidobrucken sowie metallorganische Polymere, von denen man vorteilhafte Materialeigenschaften erwarten kann, werden behandelt. Die Bedeutung dieser Komplexe hat Chisholm['l wie folgt formuliert : ,,Central to the development of polynuclear and cluster chemistry are bridging ligands and central to organometallic chemistry are metal-carbon bonds. Thus, bridging hydrocarbyl ligands hold a pivotal position in the development of dinuclear and polynuclear organometallic chemistry".

Transition metal complexes in which hydrocarbons serve as o,o-, o,n-, or K,n-bound bridging ligands are currently of great interest. This review presents efficient and directed syntheses for such compounds, which often have very aesthetic structures. These reactions are among the most important reaction types in modern organometallic chemistry. They can be a useful aid for the synthesis of tailor-made compounds, for example, for models of catalytic processes and, specifically, for the construction of heterometallic compounds. We will discuss reactions of electrophilic complexes with nucleophilic ones, numerous transformations of (functionalized) hydrocarbons with metal complexes, the currently very topical complexes with bridging acetylide and carbide ligands, and organometallic polymers, which can be expected to have interesting and novel materials properties.
