Nucleation in Ising ferromagnet by a field spatially spreading in time

Abstract: The nucleation in Ising ferromagnet has been studied by Monte Carlo simulation. Here, unlike the earlier studies, the magnetic field is spreading over the space in time. The nucleation time is observed to increase as compared to that in the case of static field. The clusters of negative spins is observed to grow from the center. The growth of effective magnetisation is studied with temperature and the strength of spreading magnetic field. The ratio of nucleation time and effective time is also studied with str… Show more

“…In the first part of our work, we have considered the uniformly applied magnetic field and the temperature has a spatial variation along the x direction only), instead of the considering the spatially uniform (temperature) cases in the previous studies [3] , [9] , [13] . As a result there is a gradient in temperature between the temperature of the left edge and the right edge of the lattice.…”

“…The magnetisation reversal transition was studied [8] in Ising model driven by an impulsive magnetic field and a phase boundary has been drawn. Recently, the nucleation and magnetisation reversal have been studied [9] in Ising ferromagnet driven by a field spreading in time. Here the competing effects of reversal time and the rate of spreading have been discussed.…”

“…The reversal with nonuniform (over space) magnetic field was also investigated [13] and a marginally competitive line was drawn [14] in the plane formed by the gradient of field and the gradient of temperature. The switching of magnetisation was investigated in Ising ferromagnets by periodic pulsed [15,16] magnetic field and a time dependent field like spreading Gaussian [17]. The relaxation of Ising ferromagnet after a sudden reversal of applied magnetic field is also studied [18].…”

“…An oscillating (in time) and uniform (in space) magnetic field yields dynamic phase transition accompanied by dynamic symmetry breaking. Very recently, [2,3,4,5,6] the responses of Ising ferromagnet to a magnetic field having spatio-temporal variation, have become an interesting subject of investigations. The classical nucleation phenomenon has been studied [2] in Ising ferromagnet in presence of a field having spatio-temporal (spreading Gaussian) variation.…”

The classical nucleation phenomenon has been studied [2] in Ising ferromagnet in presence of a field having spatio-temporal (spreading Gaussian) variation. Here, existence of a new time scale was mentioned.…”
