Nuclear spectroscopic study of24Na

Abstract: The nucleus 24Na has been investigated by studying the gamma-rays emitted following thermal neutron capture in 23Na, with curved crystal and Ge(Li) spectrometers. Of the 277 transitions assigned to 24Na, 216 were placed in the 24Na level scheme containing 45 levels, of which six (1,961, 1,977, 3,866, 5,810, 5,918, and 6,222 keV) are reported for the first time. An average gamma-ray multiplicity of 3.3 gammas per neutron capture was observed. The neutron binding energy was determined to be 6,959.73 (14) keV. T… Show more

“…Early ͑n, ␥͒ experiments were compiled in 1967 by Bartholomew et al [8]. Later the ͑n, ␥͒ reaction was measured by Nichol et al [9], Wilson et al [10], Tielens and co-workers [11,12], Hungerford et al [13], Ming et al [14], and Hori et al [15] in Hamilton, Argonne, Petten, Grenoble, Beijing, and Tokyo, respectively. More than 100 ␥ lines are seen in these studies.…”
