Iodine-131 is associated with nuclear power plant effluent from the release of fission products (DJurović et al 2016 , Sulaiman et al 2018 ) or an improvised nuclear device (Marcus et al 2006 , Chen and Tenforde 2010 , Pan and Ungar 2012 ). Practical examples given in this paper for demonstration employed the ICRP HRTM given in Publication 130 (ICRP 2015 ); however, the fundamental mathematical approach governing the estimation of activity burden in the body remains consistent and could be adopted for other internal exposure scenarios of concern.…”
