A new 3-Dimensional Y/C separation algorithm equipped with a newly designed spatial filter and a temporal filter o p erating on a sub-sampled NTSC signal i s proposed. The 2-D filter proposed is designed t o restore a fine image detail by selecting a proper filter based on the sample correlations, and thuscan reduce remarkablya blurringand visual artifact c o m monly introduced i n the typical 2-DY/Cseparation algorithm especially when the input samples t o the filter are weakly correlated. For the temporal filtering in the system, on the other hand, in order t o shrink the hardware complexity due t o a frame memory, we utilize a subsamplin scheme.
