“…The researchers that explored the relationship between NT-ProBNP and left atrial dysfunction in rheumatic mitral stenosis and how it correlates with left atrial function after PBMV discovered a substantial rise in LA SEC in conjunction with a decrease in LAA EV, as did Khare and coworkers [15].…”

“…This finding was supported by a study by Sharma et al (2011) [ 56 ] in RHD mitral stenosis patients; it was found that both BNP and atrial natriuretic peptide (ANP) were associated with disease severity, but ANP was not shown to be significantly related to exercise capacity or increased blood pressure during exercise. In contrast, increased BNP was associated with a lower left atrial area index, lower exercise capacity, and higher pulmonary artery pressure [ 54 ]. A decrease in the value of NT-pro BNP in our study could indicate a decrease in myocardial stress, specifically in the left atrial myocardium [ 56 ].…”

“…However, other studies have uncovered the possibility of different sites synthesizing or producing BNP. Research by Khare and Dwivedi (2016) found a correlation between left atrial dysfunction examined by tissue-Doppler-derived strain/strain rate (S/Sr) and NT-pro BNP levels [54]. This hormone level can also be used to predict improvement in left atrial function after percutaneous mitral balloon valvuloplasty.…”

“…This is a fact of particular importance since it reaffirms the idea that intensive surveillance is necessary during the first days and probably a hospital admission is recommended in those patients with high levels of this marker. We now know that higher values of NT-pro-BNP and its derivates are associated with an increased risk of ischemic stroke [19][20][21], because they reflect a greater risk of atrial fibrillation [27], and a higher severity of atrial disease [28][29][30] and other potentially embolic cardiopathies [31][32][33]. Therefore, it is to be expected that if the risk is greater the likelihood that the embolic event occurs earlier is also greater.…”
