“…Our results are consistent with the published observation that a recombinant NRG3 fusion protein fails to compete with radiolabeled NRG1b for binding to a recombinant ErbB3 fusion protein (Jones et al, 1999). However, the observation that NRG3 stimulates ErbB2 and ErbB3 tyrosine phosphorylation in 32D cells devoid of endogenous ErbB family receptors (Hijazi et al, 1998) contrasts our results. Of course, coexpression of ErbB2 and ErbB3 in 32D cells permits EGF stimulation of receptor coupling to IL3 independence and mitogenesis (Pinkas-Kramarski et al, 1998).…”

“…Cell lines MDA-MD-453 and T47D were stimulated to grow by two NRG2 isoforms. 89 NRG3 was expressed in breast cancer cell lines, and the EGF-like domain of NRG3, as a recombinant protein, activated ERBB2/ ERBB3 in breast cancer cells and altered their growth, 90 although it had little affinity in a direct-binding assay. 84 NRG4 appears to be specific for ERBB4.…”

“…The mammary phenotypes observed in the A/J strain are all consistent with defective specification events occurring prior to the morphological appearance of the mammary bud. Here we provide evidence that the gene affected in ska mice encodes the Erbb4 ligand, Neuregulin3 (Nrg3) (Zhang et al 1997;Hijazi et al 1998;Gizatullin et al 2000). Taken together, these results indicate that Nrg3 is a specification signal for mammary buds.…”
