New public management policies have been in effect in Chile since the 1980s, influencing the development of human resources policies and procedures, particularly within higher education institutions. While the impact of these policies on academic staff is evident, their implications for non-academic personnel who operate under the same regime as public servants remain unclear. This research aims to investigate the relationship between new public management principles and the career beliefs of non-academic personnel in Chile. Utilizing focus groups, this study analyzes the perceptions of career trajectories among the collaboration staff at the country's most prominent public university. Finally, the results are discussed.

Les politiques s’inspirant du nouveau management public en vigueur au Chili depuis les années 1980 ont influencé le développement des politiques et des procédures en matière de ressources humaines, en particulier au sein des établissements d’enseignement supérieur. Si l’impact de ces politiques sur le personnel académique est évident, leurs implications pour le personnel non académique qui opère sous le même régime que les fonctionnaires restent floues. Cette recherche a pour but d’étudier la relation entre les principes du nouveau management public et les convictions professionnelles du personnel non universitaire au Chili. À l’aide de groupes de discussion, cette étude analyse les perceptions des trajectoires de carrière parmi le personnel de soutien de l’université publique la plus importante du pays. Pour terminer, nous discutons des résultats. Remarques à l’intention des praticiens Notre étude invite les professionnels du secteur public à reconnaître la distance entre les cadres juridiques et les politiques qui visent à gérer les carrières des fonctionnaires et les cultures organisationnelles qui ont donné naissance à un modèle traditionnel de carrière dans la fonction publique. Par conséquent, ceux qui travaillent dans le secteur public doivent renforcer la capacité d’action des fonctionnaires en développant leur professionnalisation. De même, la flexibilité des carrières et les idées de mérite doivent être abordées de manière critique, en particulier dans les pays en développement, comme dans le cas analysé.
