Nowcasting bitcoin’s crash risk with order imbalance

Abstract: The spectacular nature of bitcoin price crashes baffles market spectators and prompts routine warnings from regulators cautioning that cryptocurrencies behave in contra to the fundamental properties that traditionally define what constitutes money.
