Novozym 435‐Catalyzed Syntheses of Polyesters and Polyamides of Medicinal and Industrial Relevance

Abstract: The adverse impact of chemical and biochemical waste on the environment and human health poses a serious challenge in today's World. The best way to address these challenges is to reduce the waste by developing more efficient processes and technologies, based on the principles of "green chemistry". Some of these synthetic approaches involving the chemoenzymatic synthetic methodologies are discussed herein. These lead to the formation of unique nanomaterials with diverse applications, such as drugs/gene deliver… Show more

“…In industrial applications, lipase, such as the widely used immobilized lipase ''Novozym 435'', is usually immobilized by physical adsorption. The immobilized lipase prepared by physical adsorption has been applied to many fields, such as biodiesel production [18], pharmaceutical synthesis [19], and industrial ester synthesis [20]. The disadvantage of physical adsorption is the inevitable desorption of enzyme molecules because of the weak interaction between lipase W. Wang and W. Zhou contributed to the work equally and should be regarded as co-first authors.…”

“…In particular, emphasis has been given to the core-shell amphiphilic dendritic polymers as scaffolds in polymer therapeutics. This mainly included the synthesis of amphiphilic dendritic polymers with a hydrophobic core surrounded by a hydrophilic shell and their application in delivering hydrophobic compounds [5,6,7,8,9,10,11,12] and their applications in transferring water-soluble dyes [13,14,15], such as rose Bengal, Congo red, eosin Y, fluorescein, bromophenol blue, methyl red, and methyl orange, from an aqueous solution to n apolar solvent. Though both, dendrimers and hyperbranched dendrimers have been explored for dye encapsulation by a number of research groups [16,17,18,19,20], amphiphilic dendronized polymers still remain relatively unexplored.…”

“…Polyesters obtained in the presence of CALB are suitable for preparation of scaffolds and wound closure. They are also applicable in diagnostic field and in cancer therapy [118]. Moreover, they are playing an important role as effective and safe drug delivery platforms [119] for e.g.…”
