Novel three phase Flux Reversal Machine with full pitch winding

Abstract: Abstract-This paper proposes a concept of fictitious 'Electrical Gear' in analyzing the flux pattern of Flux Reversal Machine (FRM). Concept of novel full pitch winding is presented for FRM. Finite Element Method ( FEM ) analysis of conventional concentrated stator pole winding FRM and proposed full pitch winding FRM are carried out to validate the concept. Generator performance of full pitch winding FRM is compared with conventional concentrated stator pole winding FRM. Full pitch winding arrangement increase… Show more

“…The figure clearly shows that stator flux linkage in FPFRM is twice as that in CSPFRM. This results in high power density (More & Fernandes 2007). Two machines are designed for the proof of this concept, one with full pitch winding arrangement and the other with concentrated stator pole winding.…”

“…Both the machine efficiencies are approximately the same [25]. To further improve the power density of FRM, a full-pitched winding (FPW) is incorporated in the stator of the FRM as shown in Figure 9 [26]. Another example of FRM for the servo drive application is depicted in Figure 6 with 12/28 poles [23].…”

“…Both the machine efficiencies are approximately the same [25]. To further improve the power density of FRM, a full-pitched winding (FPW) is incorporated in the stator of the FRM as shown in Figure 9 [26]. Comparing different topologies of the FRM, that is, the consequent-pole permanent magnet (CPM) topology with the SMPM topology, as illustrated in Figure 10, it was concluded that CPM topology improves the torque performance and reduces the magnetic volume [27].…”

“…It is concluded that FRM has higher power density in comparison with other machines in the same class [6]. Full pitch winding flux reversal machine (FPFRM) was proposed to improve the power density of the machine as compared to conventional concentrated stator pole winding flux reversal machine (CSPFRM) [7]. In this paper, concept of fictitious 'Electrical Gear' is proposed based on the flux pattern of the machine.…”
