Novel testing equipment for fabric wrinkle resistance simulating actual wear

Abstract: Wrinkling is one of the most important factors that determine the visual aesthetic of our clothes. To investigate wrinkling characteristics in actual wear and explore the relationship between the wrinkling caused by wearing and testing results of the wrinkle recovery angle (WRA) method, we made a device that can produce wrinkles very similar to those on clothes. Twenty-four fabrics were wrinkled by the device, and the images of wrinkled fabrics were analyzed. Wrinkle density (WD) was defined for wrinkling char… Show more

“…Differing from the standard sample preparation method, it generates wrinkling on fabric by a motor driven cylinder creux automatically. In addition, instead of testing the fabric smoothness appearance on fabric sample, researchers propose a series of wearing simulation devices to generate samples with similar wrinkles in actual wearing [44,45]. Then the smoothness appearance of the samples is also evaluated by image analysis algorithms.…”

“…To verify the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm in the classification of fabric wrinkle level, the collected data set is verified in this paper. Sample preparation is according to Liu et al 7 The samples used in this article are mainly used for academic research; sleeving at the same person's arm joints was adopted, and the level is subjectively evaluated by experts, because according to Figure 1 from AATCC 128-2004, 30 for fabric smoothness rating, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 rating respectively corresponds to WR-5, WR-4, WR-3, WR-2, WR-1 or worse than the WR-1 replicas in AATCC 128-2004. So we used the five levels for this research.…”

“…As 2D texture information was mixed with print or shadow, 10 3D reconstruction technology such as structure light and stereovision has been used to produce fabric spatial morphology. 8,9,11–15 For example, Xin 16,17 proposed a dynamic flexible profile scanning technique to reconstruct the fabric surface. Yu 13 presented a stereo vision system and yielded a depth map when reconstructing the 3D surface of a wrinkled fabric. Another key problem is the classification of fabric smoothness appearance.…”
