Novel Sodium Alginate/Polyvinylpyrrolidone/TiO2 Nanocomposite for Efficient Removal of Cationic Dye from Aqueous Solution

Abstract: The combination of adsorption and photodegradation processes is an effective technique for the removal of dye contaminants from water, which is motivating the development of novel adsorbent-photocatalyst materials for wastewater treatment. Herein, novel nanocomposite porous beads were developed using titanium dioxide (TiO2) nanotubes embedded in a sodium alginate (SA)/polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) matrix using calcium chloride solution as a crosslinker. The prepared nanocomposite beads’ performance was examined a… Show more

“…The adsorbent was brought into contact with 50 ml dye solutions having concentrations ranging from 10 to 40 ppm, with the pH maintained at 7. 15,24,25 To facilitate the experiment, a single neck round bottom flask was placed on a magnetic stirrer at room temperature, and stirring was achieved using a magnetic bead. For UV analysis, the required amount of dye solution was collected at specific time intervals and transferred to test tubes.…”

“…40 The composites of SA/PVP/TiO 2 showed 98.9% deterioration of methylene blue dye in 120 min. 41 In light of the above discussion, the innovation of this study is to develop metal sulfide-based nanostructures involving no additional energy but utilizing biocompatible polymer gelbased materials, where the structures originate at the interface and progress deep within the gel phase by the gradual diffusion of reactant particles. These structures can result in hierarchical porosity along with a high surface area.…”
