Novel Silver(I) and Copper(II) Complexes of Tetrakis(2-pyridyl)methane

Abstract: Tetrakis(2-pyridyl)methane forms a novel one dimensional coordination polymer complex with Ag(I) ion and two kinds of complexes different in coordination modes with Cu(II) ion, indicating its versatile ability as a symmetric tetradentate ligand.

“…The silver complex of the title compound forms a one-dimensional coordination polymer in which the title compound acts as a two-fold bidentate bridging ligand (Matsumoto et al, 2004). This coordination pattern was also observed in a dinuclear Mn(II) complex (Okazawa et al, 2004) and dinuclear Ni(II) complex (Okazawa et al, 2006).…”

The bidentate coordination pattern was observed in the Cu(II) complexes of the title compound (Matsumoto et al, 2004;Okazawa et al, 2005) and tripodal coordination patterns were observed in Cu(II), Fe(II), and Co(II) complexes (Matsumoto et al, 2004;Ishikawa et al, 2009;Hirosawa et al, 2012).…”

“…We have investigated the synthesis and properties of tetrakis(pyridin-2-yl)methane (py 4 C) over the last decade (Matsumoto et al, 2003(Matsumoto et al, , 2004. In the course of our studies on py 4 C, we are interested in the ruthenium complex with py 4 C because of the fascinating properties of ruthenium polypyridine complexes (Juris et al, 1988;Balzani et al, 1996).…”

“…Matsumoto et al [12] reported the preparation of compound (18) using n-butyl lithium in different solvents, but we have found that using of LDA is better than n-butyl lithium in THF. This compound (18) is of considerable interest as a complexing agent [13][14][15][16].…”
