Novel dual‐band circularly polarized slot antenna with asymmetrical stubs

Abstract: In this paper, we propose a slot antenna with circularly polarized (CP) characteristics in two frequency bands. The proposed antenna consists of a square wide slot with a square patch in the center and a pair of stubs for radiator asymmetry. The proposed antenna shows right-hand CP characteristics at 1.88 GHz and left-hand CP characteristics at 4.41 GHz. The proposed antenna has measured impedance bandwidths of 24.3% (1.77-2.26 GHz) and 33.4% (3.84-5.38 GHz) in the lower and upper bands, respectively. The meas… Show more

“…The array has an AR bandwidth of 4.3 GHz from 3 to 7.3 GHz which is wider than AR bandwidth reported in refs. [2–8]. The gain was measured using the comparison method where the power of reference horn antenna and antenna under test were calculated separately.…”

“…In Deshmukh and Verma (2019), 13 a parametric study was presented that estimated the dimensions of the CS needed to achieve the different resonance modes required for CP radiation. A prime advantage of the CS is that it can yield wideband operation due to resonance frequencies corresponding to multiple resonant modes 14,15 …”

“…A prime advantage of the CS is that it can yield wideband operation due to resonance frequencies corresponding to multiple resonant modes. 14,15 To estimate the radius of the CS (r e ), a radius determination procedure was employed in the same way as for a circular slot. A circular slot antenna can support several resonance frequency modes and radius r e can be determined based on the resonance frequency corresponding to the resonance modes.…”

“…Many methods have been presented in the literature to produce broadband circularly polarized (CP) radiation. [1][2][3] The microstrip CP slot antennas get much attention due to providing relatively broad impedance matching and CP bandwidth while retaining a small size. The slot antenna schemes are usually implemented by a coplanar waveguide (CPW) feed and a microstrip topology.…”

“…The operation of traditional patch antennas is affected by the inherent narrow axial ratio (AR) bandwidth of them. Many methods have been presented in the literature to produce broadband circularly polarized (CP) radiation 1–3 . The microstrip CP slot antennas get much attention due to providing relatively broad impedance matching and CP bandwidth while retaining a small size.…”
